Community Cloud Licenses
To account for the
differences in features, user experiences, sharing requirements, data security,
and other needs for the various roles, Salesforce has built purpose-driven
applications and licenses.
Types of User
Internal and External.
Internal users use standard
Licenses and Login to salesforce from mydomain urls or login.salesforce.com ,
This users can also login to Community using the same. They have access to
Salesorce Org.
External Users –
A user who is not authorised
for the Salesforce Org but you want to increase the secure engagement with him.
He may be your Customer, Partner or Employee and you want to on-board him to
your community must have a specific License and configuration to be member of
your community.
When Do
Customers Use External Licenses?
- Limit access to your data
- Restrict privacy or security and sharing
considerations
- Provide a more limited set of permissions (for
example, can’t manage other users in the org or have access to modify all
data)
- Limit access to a subset of information that
is contained in your org
External Identity License Details
With the External Identity license,
you can store and manage customers and partners. You can authenticate external
users in several ways.
- Username
and password
- Single
Sign-On (SSO)
- Password
less login, such as a verification code sent in an email or text message
- Social
identity provider, such as Facebook or Twitter
Communities User Licenses
Here’s another way to think about it: Your community is like
an airplane. Each passenger has a different type of ticket (license), and
therefore, different levels of access. They’re all together on the same ride, but
each person has a slightly different experience based on how much the ticket
cost.
Six Community Licenses
Customer
Community-B2C experiences with large
numbers of external users who need access to case objects or knowledge. The
Customer Community can be used with person accounts. Community members who access the Cloud Kicks
community using a Customer Community License have a much more limited level of
access to the community’s objects compared to other community license holders
and Salesforce internal org users.
Why?
Because these license holders do not have roles within Salesforce, so they
can’t take advantage of role-based sharing.
·
·
Customer Community
Plus-Business-to-consumer experiences with
external users who need access to reports & dashboards and need advanced
sharing. The Customer Community Plus can be used with person accounts.
·
Partner Community-Business-to-business communities that need access to sales
data such as partner relationship management. The Partner Community can’t be
used with person accounts but with Business Accounts.
·
Lightning External Apps Starter -Custom digital experiences to engage any
external stakeholder, including Brand Engagement and Customer Loyalty. Limited
access to CRM objects. The Lightning External Apps Starter can be used with
person accounts.
·
Lightning External Apps Plus-Highly customized experiences incorporating
CRM objects, custom objects, external data, and requiring additional storage.
Ideal use cases are dealer, vendor, or supplier portals. Also commonly used for
franchise management, marketplaces, and multi-level marketing. The Lightning
External Apps Plus can’t be used with person accounts.
·
Channel Account-Business-to-business communities and portals that calculate
their usage based on number of partners instead of number of individual users.
Don’t Need any community license if
the goal is only of knowledge sharing , Unauthenticated (or guest) user can
still view the public community pages.
In addition to
supporting communities licenses, Communities supports all internal and portal
licenses, including existing Customer Portal, Authenticated Website, and
partner portal licenses.
What are the different community
license types?
Each community license can be either a member-based license or a
login-based license, totalling nine different community licenses:
Member- Based Community Licences Login Based Community Licensed
Customer Community Customer Community Login License
Customer Community Plus Customer Community Plus Login License
Partner Community Partner Community Login License
Lightning External Apps Plus Lightning External Apps Plus Login License
Lightning External App Starter Lightning External App Starter Login License

Your good knowledge and kindness in playing with all the pieces were very useful. I don’t know what I would have done if I had not encountered such a step like this.
